論文摘要:
As Taiwan's foremost nutrition and health food manufacturer, Standard Foods Group (SFG), with leading brands like Quaker, NurturEssence, Fresh Delight, and Great Day, demonstrates a profound commitment to enhancing national health and well-being. Based on KPMG's Taiwan Sustainability Risk Survey in 2024, declining birthrate and rapidly aging society have been recognized as the top 2 and top 3 sustainability challenges in Taiwan. Recognizing these two top challenges, SFG strategically leverages its core competence as "a nutrition expert" to proactively address these complex challenges through integrated, nutrition-focused well-being education initiatives. This practical paper examines SFG's comprehensive approaches, which center on nutrition education and community engagement with ecosystem partners, exemplified by its impactful "GROW WITH LOVE" and "LIVE FOR GOOD" programs and collaborative ecosystem-building efforts.
GROW WITH LOVE
Imbalanced nutrient intake and insufficient nutrition knowledge are critical challenges for underprivileged children in remote areas of Taiwan. These deficiencies hinder the physical and cognitive growth of those kids and lead to long-term chronic disease risks for them. High rates of hunger and food insecurity, often stemming from economic limitations and inadequate nutrition education, lead to their reliance on less healthy food options. This nutritional deficit, potentially exacerbated by unstable family environments, can also negatively impact those underprivileged kids’ behavioral development and learning ability. Recognizing this urgent educational and societal challenge, SFG, with its commitment to well-being and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-being, launched the "GROW WITH LOVE" Nutrition Education Initiative. This initiative directly addresses those critical challenges by providing systematic nutrition education and support. In 2024, SFG donated 5,659 “Nutrition Education Boxes” designed by their nutritionists with the effort to fulfill a kid’s one-month nutrition needs for protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, and minerals. A demonstrative Two-day "Nutrition Education Camps" empowered 59 aboriginal students, and 56 educators were trained via 2 "Tutoring Workshops". As a direct result, "GROW WITH LOVE" supported the nutrition needs of 9,185 economically underprivileged students during the summer, reached 25,116 individuals through over 17,000 distributed "Nutrition Teaching Aids", with the goal to improve not only those underprivileged students’ but also those empowered caregivers’ well-being, healthy eating habits, and nutrition knowledge.
LIVE FOR GOOD
Simultaneously, Taiwan has another present health and wellness crisis - rapidly entering a "super-ageing society" by 2025. Many seniors face increasing financial hardship and social isolation, leading to prolonged unhealthy living and a substantial burden on the healthcare and social welfare system. Recognizing this urgent need to promote well-being among seniors, SFG launched the "LIVE FOR GOOD" Nutrition Education Well-being Initiative. This initiative aligns with the government efforts by leveraging nutrition education to empower seniors in maintaining their physical and cognitive health, fostering vital social connections, and cultivating a more vibrant and active lifestyle in their later years. In 2024, recognizing the critical role of enhanced and special nutrition needs, SFG designed "Nutrition Education Boxes" specifically designed by their nutritionists with enhanced protein, calcium, and glucosamine to meet the needs of underprivileged seniors and donated 7,500 of those boxes to over 2,500 individuals. In addition, SFG launched 12 community-based "Nutrition Workshops," promoting nutrition knowledge to 1,028 seniors and volunteers. Furthermore, SFG curated a non-repeating 5-week meal menu especially for seniors, with over 105 meals/menus designed by 5 nutritionists from various local community centers and local hospitals. As a result, "LIVE FOR GOOD" provided professional nutrition support and education, strengthened social support networks, and improved healthy eating habits and community engagement among seniors and volunteers via various NGOs. The initiative aims to improve those seniors’ quality of life, independence, and foster a more supportive society.
Beyond these direct educational interventions targeting specific demographics, SFG strategically focuses on building a sustainable ecosystem through collaborative partnerships with NGOs and media. A prime example is the ongoing collaboration with a popular media and app - “Hiking Note” for the "Mt. Jade Treasure Hunt,” an innovative online and real-world activity with gamified approaches that promotes public health by encouraging 'smart eating and joyful exercise' among a wider population. Participants track their hiking through a dedicated platform, earning points and contributing to a collective virtual treasure hunt. Based on public participation in this engaging activity, SFG donates valuable nutrition education resources to communities in need, further amplifying the impact of its core expertise. In 2025, SFG expands its impact by collaborating with the World Masters Games and multiple NGOs for over 85 nutrition workshops, advocating for healthy BMI.
By seamlessly integrating its core nutrition competencies with strategic collaborations and social engagement initiatives, SFG demonstrates a practical and impactful approach to tackling Taiwan's critical sustainability risks in low birth rate and aging population. These initiatives enhance SFG’s commitment to become the health and nutrition partners for every family in Taiwan and empower everyone to live with a life-time of well-being.
